Delicious home made bread!

Hi everyone!

I finally got around to making some bread last Sunday and I have to say it is absolutely delicious! The recipe it's quite easy and I'll list everything below so you can re-create it if you would like to. The dough is easy to make and handle and it makes two full capsules. I froze both of them because we still had some Ezekiel bread that we usually buy on Fresh Direct and only took it out of the freezer yesterday.

I used to make bread all the time but have been lagging in the last year. I really enjoy making bread, you see the immediate result, entire house smells delicious, and Parris absolutely loves it so that makes me extra happy. I just discovered this vegan cream cheese with scallions, it is so delicious on this bread.

Ingredients for two breads:

850 gSoy flour
150 gQuinoa and rice flour
2 Pck.Dry yeast
1 TbsSalt
150 g
Sunflower and flax seeds
3 TbsOil
500 mlSoy milk
200 mlWater
2Ripe bananas

How to make the bread:
Mix all dry ingredients, add the bananas by squishing them with your hands so there are only mushy junks, add the oil, soy milk and water and knead it until it's a rather smooth dough. Let the dough rise for about 30 minutes. The fill it into two well oiled bread forms and let it rise for another 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 200 C (390F) and bake the bread for 20minutes. Then turn back the heat to 180c (355F) and bake for 30-50mins. Test the bread with a knife or needle until no wet dough sticks to it anymore. Then let it cool off ideally over night and it's ready to enjoy!

Summarizing the juice fast and why it's been the best!

Hi everyone,

oh can we just talk quickly about this amazing juice fast exeprience I had this year? I mean, this has been the best juice fast so far - ever! I took a lot of time to think about what it might have been that changed the experience for me and I have a few conclusions.

1. It might have been more enjoyable because I did not force myself to work out - at all! And guess what, I didn't!

2. I mixed up my juice recipes a bit, incorporating peppers (green and red) as well as tomatoes which make for a great, almost sauce like juice. These juices were very satisfiying and especially great at night.

3. In the past, I would make an effort to still meet up with friends and not change my social life too much, meeting up for juices or tea and still being out n' about. This time around, I took it all back to the base - back home, staying in a lot, going to bed as early as 9.30pm, sleeping 10 or more hours and focusing on myself as well as on things I've been meaning to do around the house.

4. We used to do the fast in January, right after the holidays and the cold weather clearly didn't help. Even though April this year was a true April (sun, rain, cold, warm) it was so much nicer to be out, we went to the beach, went for walks and just enjoyed the garden and our deck.

EARTH DAY - Recycling and other ideas

Hi everyone,

recently I've read an {article} on a girl that apparently lives without producing any trash at all. I find it very hard to believe, thinking specifically about bathroom/feminine needs. But - either way - it sparked a thought and I have to say that I have changed one habit.

At work, we use paper cups to put our coffee or tea in and since we do not have a kitchen with a sink on our floor, everyone seems to be ok with this - I mean I was - but recently I started to bring my cleaned almond butter or veganese jars with the lid to work.

I fill up the jar at home with either tea or coffee when I leave in the morning and it becomes my travel mug and then at work I reuse it for either tea or coffee.

Now that I am juice fasting, I bring my pre-made lunch juice with me to work. This way, I save money and don't produce the extra trash of another plastic bottle.

And then - I came to thinking about alllll the plastic water bottles we have at home and all that money we spend on getting SMART water every month. I looked into the most advanced home water filters that don't require under sink installation (since we rent, I really don't want to invest in a reverse Osmosis system - although that would be THE BEST).

I came across the {SOMA} water filter which is not only beautiful in its design, but also a very green option. It has already arrived and the water tastes really good - I am totally convinced and love it! So happy that we won't have all those SMART WATER bottles anymore and glad to save the money, too!

Documenting the juice fast

Hello everyone! I have to come clean: I have not been to the gym in approximately two months and even before that I went maybe once a week -  if even. I will have to start working out again because the way I feel and look just is not okay! I am currently weighing 154 (US) pounds/69 kg and that is way too much for me!! So – here we go - trying to lose those extra pounds I put on over the winter, getting back into my gym routine and building/rebuilding our healthy lifestyle.

This is me on day 3 of the juice fast! Let's document the journey.

Babo is back!

Hi everyone! I am happy to report that I am back here on my blog! A lot has happened during the last year and that's why I have been MIA. We moved, we had a lot to take care of, I took on a new job... you know how it is - Life keeps you busy.

But I am happy to let you know that Parris and I started to juice yesterday. We have been debating whether or not to do the juice fast and decided to postpone it for several reasons from January to April. But here we are - juicing started yesterday after prepping for one week with a vegan, dairy free, alcohol free prep phase. Of course the first day is not as joyful as the ones to come, but we took our new truck for a little ride and went to the beach for a nice walk. Finally spring seems to be coming so that's really something to look forward to!

Last Day of the third juice cleanse

Hi all,

so - TaTa! - today is my last day of the 12 day juice fast. Parris had to start eating again due to the fact that he is booked on a pretty intense 3 day commercial so I was in on it alone for the past 3 days. He had his first "food smoothie" on Monday night.

So far, everything went well for both him and I - we definitely worked out much less this time around as there was a heat wave in NYC and we both felt rather weak and even faint from time to time. So basically, we lounged a lot, hung out together, went to the movies, read, met friends for tea or juice and just really rested - a lot!

We both recognized, that we didn't loose as much weight this time, probably due to the fact of not working out so much but also probably since we already eat really healthy. We really never did the juice fast to loose weight anyways, so that's totally ok.

So, to sum it all up - for the past 12 days, all I consumed was 3-4 juices a day, about a gallon of water and tea (combined) and 3-5 spoons of honey either in my tea or right off the spoon. I went for a colonic only once, where I've been told that, according to the therapist, it was one of the best "results" she'd ever seen, so us changing the way we eat already paid off dramatically.  I went from 139lbs to 129lbs and all my jeans (except for one) are too big now - I see a shopping spree in the near future!

Tomorrow, I will start my day with a kale, apple, avocado and lemon smoothie! Will keep you posted how my journey back to food continues.

also - TaTa! - heute ist mein letzter Tag der 12tages Saftfastenkur. Parris hat am Montag Abend schon mit einem Gemüse Smoothie wieder angefangen zu essen, da er momentan an einem 3 tägigen Commercial arbeitet und dafür fit sein muss. Somit war ich die letzten 3 Tage alleine am fasten.

Bisher ist alles super für ihn und mich verlaufen - wir haben definitiv dieses Mal sehr viel weniger Sport gemacht, da wir in NYC eine Hitzewelle hatten und uns immer wieder schwach und müde gefühlt haben. Von daher haben wir einfach viel Zeit miteinander verbracht, sind ins Kino gegangen, haben gelesen, haben Freunde auf einen Tee oder Saft getroffen und haben uns einfach viel ausgeruht.

Wir haben beide festgestellt, dass wir dieses Mal nicht so viel abgenommen haben wie bei der letzten Fastenkur was wahrscheinlich daran liegt, dass wir weniger Sport gemacht haben aber vielleicht auch, weil wir und schon sehr gesund ernähren. Und wir  fasten ja eh nicht, um abzunehmen sondern um unseren Körpern eine Pause zu geben, von daher ist das total ok.

Also um es nun alles zusammen zu fassen - in den letzten 12 Tagen habe ich zwischen 3 und 4 frisch entsafteten Gemüsesäften am Tag getrunken, ca. 3 1/2 l Wasser und Tee (zusammengefasst) getrunken und zwischen 3 und 5 Teelöffel Honig entweder im Tee oder direkt vom Löffel zu mir genommen. Ich habe ein Darmbad in einem Gesundheitszentrum machen lassen, wo die Therapeutin mir gesagt hat, dass sie selten so gute "Resultate" gesehen hat. Unsere Ernährungsumstellung der letzten 6 Monate zahlt sich also schon aus! Mein Gewicht ist von 63kg auf 59kg gefallen und all meine Jeans, selbst meine engsten, sitzen nicht mehr - ich sehe eine Shoppingtour am nahen Horizont!

Morgen werde ich meinen Tag mit einem Grünkohl, Apfel, Avocado und Zitronen Smoothie beginnen! Ich werde euch auf dem Laufenden halten, wie meine Reise zurück zu Nahrung weitergeht.
